Report: Alexander Gustafsson-Rashad Evans Fight Unlikely to Take Place in Early 2015
By FCF Staff
Since UFC light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones is set to face Daniel Cormier in January, there had been talk recently that the promotion may look to book Alexander Gustafsson versus Rashad Evans. It looks, however, as though that fight may not happen any time soon.
Evans has been sidelined for all of 2014 thus far, due to a knee injury, which pulled him from a scheduled fight with Cormier in February. There was speculation that Evans might be ready to return in early 2015, and as a result, the #4 ranked 205’er might face the #1 contender Gustafsson.
Well, in the latest episode of “UFC Tonight”, the show’s correspondent, Ariel Helwani, reported that Evans does not feel he’ll be ready to fight in January or February. The former champ’s leg does not feel stable yet, and he likely won’t fight until March.
Since Gustafsson is hoping to fight earlier than that, the UFC will likely look to book “The Mauler”a different opponent.
Gustafsson hasn’t fought since March, when he stopped Jimi Manuwa in the second round. Evans, on the other hand, hasn’t competed since last November when he took out Chael Sonnen in the opening round.
