Report: Alistair Overeem Applies for NSAC License

UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem

By FCF Staff

In preparation for his February 2nd bout with Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, Alistair Overeem and his representatives have reportedly applied for a license today with the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

The move was necessary after Overeem was denied a license by the NSAC earlier in 2012, as a result of testing positive for an elevated testosterone / epitestostereone ratio, prior to a scheduled bout with Junior dos Santos in May. Overeem blamed the test result on taking a medical treatment for a rib injury, which the heavyweight said he was unaware had any substance that would lead to a failed test.

According to a report from MMA Junkie, Overeem will appear before the NSAC on January 8th for his hearing.

The former Strikeforce and DREAM champion’s February 2nd bout with Silva will be hosted by the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Overeem (36-11) hasn’t competed since last December when he stopped former UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar in the first round.

Silva (17-4) scored a first round TKO win over Travis Browne in his last outing, which took place at UFC on FX 5 in October.
