Report: Anderson Silva’s Manager Calls For Fight With GSP

Dismisses Fights With Current Middleweight Contenders

By FCF Staff

While UFC President Dana White has been hyping up the current middleweight title shot picture lately, by citing fighters like Chris Weidman as legitimate contenders for Anderson Silva, apparently one of the champion’s managers doesn’t see it the same way.

Instead, Silva’s manager and Black House MMA founder Jorge Guimaraes reportedly believes that a bout with welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre is his client’s best option.

Speaking to the Brazilian outlet Tatame.com, Guimares apparently dismissed the idea that fighters like Weidman, Tim Boetsch or Alan Belcher are ready to face Silva, by stating “that’s a big joke.”

Guimares reportedly added that “”No opponent makes sense for Anderson at this moment. Unless we do a catchweight against Georges St. Pierre”. Guimares proceeded to argue that only a fight with GSP has the potential to earn the revenue Silva should make, while fights with “amateur kids” do not.

Accoridng to statements White has made recently, the 37 year-old Silva is hoping to fight again soon, following his second round, stoppage win over Chael Sonnen earlier this month.

If the comments of Guimares are more reflective of Silva’s intentions, however, it appears as though the renowned fighter may not compete for some time.

St. Pierre is currently recovering from major knee surgery and is expected to fight interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit at UFC 154 in November.
