Report: Anderson Silva Hoping to Rematch Chris Weidman This Year

Anderson Silva

By FCF Staff

Anderson Silva may have surprised some fans when he said he wasn’t interested in fighting Chris Weidman again, moments after he was knocked out by the undefeated middleweight at UFC 162, but now a report’s surfaced claiming the renowned fighter has changed his mind.

Sources have reportedly informed MMA Fighting.com that Silva in fact decided he wants to rematch Weidman not long after the fight ended Saturday night. According to the report, Silva wants the fight to take place sometime this year, and not on February 1st as Dana White was originally planning. More recently, the UFC President told the L.A. Times that he was considering moving the fight to UFC 168 on December 28th.

That card is set to feature women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey rematching Miesha Tate and will take place in Las Vegas.

There’s been no official word from the UFC or Silva’s camp regarding the status of a rematch with Weidman, which could end up being one of the promotion’s biggest fights to date.

Silva had won 17 straight fights and hadn’t lost since 2006, before facing Weidman on July 6th.
