Report: Anderson Silva to Box Chael Sonnen
By FCF Staff
It looks like Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen are going to fight for a third time. Except, in this round, the two will battle in the boxing ring instead of the cage.
Recently Silva has been preparing to box at a June 15th card in Brazil. Former football player, turned actor, Terry Crews, was rumored as Silva’s opponent, after the two exchanged callouts online.
Now, it’s being reported that Chael Sonnen will box Silva at the upcoming event. It’s not known yet whether the fight will be pro-bout, and what weight it will be contested at, or how many rounds it will be.
Sonnen, who is now 47, was submitted by Silva in their first fight, which took place in 2010. The accomplished wrestler controlled much of the fight until Silva caught him with a triangle-choke in round five.
In their 2012 rematch, Silva stopped Sonnen with strikes in round two.
The 49-year-old Silva has been competing in boxing since he exited from the UFC in 2020 and has gone 3-2. Most recently, in 2022, Silva lost via decision to Jake Paul.
Sonnen, meanwhile, hasn’t competed in any professional bouts since he retired from MMA in 2019.
The upcoming fight is reportedly being billed as Silva’s “grand finale”. But, the legendary fighter has yet to confirm if it will be his final fight.
