Report: Bellator to Create Men’s Flyweight Division
By FCF Staff
It looks like male flyweight fighters will soon have another, big stage option to compete on, as it’s being reported Bellator is going to launch a flyweight division.
Currently, the lowest weight class Bellator promotes for men is bantamweight and in total, the company has nine, active weight classes.
But, multiple sources have informed MMA Junkie that Bellator is expected to announce the creation of a men’s flyweight division soon.
While it remains to be seen if Kyoji Horiguchi elects to compete at 125 pounds under the Bellator banner, the Japanese fighter immediately comes to mind as a top candidate. Horiguchi has competed at flyweight and challenged for the UFC’s flyweight title in 2015.
Horiguchi has also won both Bellator’s and Rizin’s bantamweight titles in the past, but in December, he defeated Hiromasa Ougikubo in a flyweight contest.
