Report: Bellator’s Scott Coker Hoping to Promote Wanderlei Silva – Chael Sonnen Next Summer
By FCF Staff
Bellator’s Scott Coker has both Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva under contract, and the promotion’s president hopes to have the two fight next year.
The veteran fighters were expected to fight under the UFC banner in 2014, however, both men ran into issues with the Nevada Commission, and neither man has competed since 2013.
Recently Coker spoke to FloCombat, and while discussing Silva and Sonnen, the promoter said this:
“That’s going to be a fight where everybody stops whatever they’re doing to turn on the TV to see the fight,” Coker said. “As we all know, that fight has been building for a number of years and they couldn’t work it out, but now I feel the timing is perfect.”
“It’s very difficult to pinpoint exactly when we can put it on, it’s kind of a moving target in a way, but I think some time in the summer for sure.”
In the meantime, Silva is scheduled to fight Mirko “Cro Cop” in the second round of Rizin’s Grand-Prix tournament on December 29th.
