Report: Ben Askren to Fight For ONE FC Welterweight Title in Promotional Debut
By FCF Staff
Not surprisingly, ONE FC has handed Ben Askren a big assignment for the undefeated fighter’s promotional debut, as he will reportedly challenge for the welterweight title. Brock Larson is scheduled to fight Nobutatsu Suzuki, March 14th, at ONE FC’s “War of Nations”, which will determine the promotion’s 170 pound champ.
The 29 year-old Askren, who has gone 12-0 since transitioning into MMA, recently relayed the news to Yahoo Sports. According to the report, Askren’s title shot will likely take place May 30th.
The decorated wrestler signed with ONE FC in December, after weeks of speculation as to whether Askren might head to the UFC, after his Bellator contract ended last summer.
Askren hasn’t fought since July 31st, when he stopped Andrey Koreshkov in the fourth round at Bellator 97. “Funky” went 9-0 during his run with Bellator and defended the promotion’s welterweight title five times.
