Report: Brian Stann Says Henry Cejudo Has a “Good Shot” at Beating Demetrious Johnson
By FCF Staff
The consensus seems to be that Demetrious Johnson will get by Henry Cejudo if the flyweights battle, but Brian Stann believes the latter has a better chance of defeating the champ than most think.
Cejudo worked his way to a split decision win over Jussier “Formiga” at UFC 188 recently, and in doing so, he moved into the #3 ranking at 125. Since the champion Johnson has already defeated top contenders like Joseph Benavidez, John Dodson and Ian McCall, many believe Cejudo will be tapped for a title shot next.
Recently Stann appeared on “The MMA Hour”, and while discussing how Cejudo would fair against Johnson, the commentator said this (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“Yes, [Cejudo] should and I actually give him a very good shot,” Stann said, before noting the fact that Cejudo won the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in freestyle wrestling, and wasn’t favored to do so.
“He is an athlete that I think rises to his competition and does what he needs to win in competition, according to that athlete. So, I think when he fights Demetrious Johnson, it will be a better fight than people think it will.”
Johnson meanwhile, worked his way to a unanimous decision win over John Dodson in his last outing, marking the second time he’s defeated the powerful fighter.
