After weeks of debate and discussion, as to whether an all star bout between Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos and current UFC Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey will ever materialize, Santos has reportedly asked to be released from her contract with the UFC.

According to multiple reports, “Cyborg’s” manager, former UFC light-heavyweight chamo Tito Ortiz, announced on this week’s edition of “Inside MMA” that since the UFC has no plans to promote a 145 pound women’s division, Santos does not have a future in the organization.

The news comes at a time when it appears as though Santos and the promotion had agreed that the former Strikeforce champion could not make the cut to 135, but that a catch-weight bout with Rousey at 140 was a possibility.

Ortiz reportedly furthered, however, that the UFC’s offer would see Santos compete in the all women’s promotion Invicta FC, before a fight with Rousey would materialize. This is unacceptable with Santos and is a further reason she has asked for her release.

Since Santos has repeatedly said she cannot make the cut to 135, citing possible health issues, securing frequent bouts with the UFC would be extremely unlikely as is. The promotion’s sole women’s division currently is at bantamweight, where as “Cyborg” has traditionally competed at featherweight.

The 27 year-old Santos (10-1) has not competed now since December, 2011.
