Although professional MMA and other combative sports will continue in California for the time being, the regulatory body that oversees fighting in the state is in serious financial trouble.

According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, the California State Athletic Commission has decided to censure the organization’s executive officer George Dodd, for “for not adequately informing the commission about the insolvency of the Athletic Commission fund.”

The report furthers that according to a memo from California’s Department of Consumer Affairs, the CSAC is expected be $700,000 in debt by next year.

The CSAC is responsible for its own fund raising through, for example, licensing fees it collects by overseeing sports like MMA and boxing.

Dodd is reportedly required to submit a proposal by August as to how the CSAC will make up for the shortfall.
