Report: Dana White Believes BJ Penn Should Retire
By FCF Staff
After incurring a three round beating at the hands of rising star Rory MacDonald, which saw BJ Penn lose by unanimous decision and head to the hospital, UFC President Dana White believes the renowned fighter should call it quits.
According to multiple reports, White relayed that he’d “like to see him (Penn) retire” while appearing on FUEL’s “UFC Tonight” program, which followed Saturday’s UFC on FOX card in Seattle.
White also credited the legendary fighter for being a “warrior”, “who doesn’t give up.”
The 33 year-old Penn was competing for the first time yesterday, since he dropped a unanimous decision loss to Nick Diaz last October, in what was also largely a one-sided affair.
Although the former lightweight and welterweight champion came into his bout with MacDonald in fantastic shape, the 5’9 Penn was unable to counter the striking game of the much larger MacDonald.
Penn (16-9) has not made any public announcement since Saturday’s defeat. The fighter went to hospital following the loss for observation.
