Report: Dana White Says Alexander Gustafsson Not Removed From UFC On FUEL TV 9 Yet, Despite Incurring Cut
By FCF Staff
Alexander Gustafsson is reportedly still scheduled to fight Gegard Mousasi at UFC on FUEL TV 9 Saturday in Sweden, despite suffering a cut in training that has put the bout in jeopardy. Whether the light-heavyweight will end up fighting at the April 6th card, however, remains to be seen.
Swedish publications MMANYTT.se and SVT.se reported yesterday that Gustafsson had incurred a cut, which may force the fighter to withdraw from Saturday’s event. According to follow up reports from MMA Fighting and MMA Junkie, however, UFC President Dana White has relayed that the Swedish Mixed Martial Arts Federation has not pulled Gustafsson from the card. White also said that the rising fighter still wants to compete.
An earlier report from MMA Fighting stated that doctors from the SMMAF have expressed doubts as to whether Gustafsson’s cut will be healed in time for the event.
The loss of Gustafsson would be a major blow to the card, as not only is the light-heavyweight set to compete in the main event, but the 26 year-old-fighter is from Sweden.
