Report: Erick Silva Fighting Jon Fitch at UFC 153
By FCF Staff
Despite Aaron Simpson’s campaign to fight Jon Fitch next, it appears as though the perennial contender will fight rising welterweight Erick Silva at UFC 153 on October 13th. The card will be hosted Rio de Janeiro’s HSBC Arena in Silva’s native Brazil.
Although the bout has not been confirmed by the UFC, both fighters have verbally agreed to the match-up according to a report from MMA Fighting.
Fitch (23-4-1) was scheduled to fight Simpson earlier this month; however, a knee injury forced the American Kickboxing Academy fighter to withdraw. The 34 year-old-veteran hasn’t competed since last December, when he was knocked out by Johny Hendricks at UFC 141.
The defeat ended the six fight, undefeated streak Fitch had put together, since he lost by unanimous decision to Georges St. Pierre in August, 2008.
Silva (14-2) is coming off a first round, submission win over Charlie Brenneman in June, after he was disqualified for hitting Carlos Prater with strikes to the back of the head at UFC 142 in January.
The Team Nogueira fighter is 4-1 in his last five fights.
UFC 153 will be headlined by a featherweight bout between champion Jose Aldo and challenger Erik Koch.
