After failing to make weight for a fight last weekend, it’s being reported that the UFC’s inaugural women’s flyweight champ, Nicco Montano, has been released.

Montano was scheduled to fight bantamweight Wu Yanan  at UFC Vegas 33. But, after Montano came in seven pounds over, the fight was canceled.

More recently, MMA Fighting reported that multiple sources have confirmed Montano has been released by the UFC.

The 32-year-old Montano, who commented on her recent weight cutting issues via social media, won the first, women’s flyweight title back in 2017. The fighter recorded a decision win over Roxanne Modafferi to secure the belt.

Montano was scheduled to defend the belt against Valentin Shevchenko in 2018, but she was hospitalized on account of weight cutting issues, and ultimately, was stripped of the title.

She only competed one more time under the UFC banner, as in 2019, Montano (4-3) lost via decision to Juliana Pena.
