Report: Frankie Edgar Says He’s Been Promised Jose Aldo or Conor McGregor if Either Gets Injured
By FCF Staff
Frankie Edgar made it clear he wasn’t very happy about the fact the UFC tapped Chad Mendes, and not him, to fight Conor McGregor at UFC 189, but it sounds like “The Answer” won’t be passed over again.
Edgar is currently scheduled to fight Mendes on December 11th, the night before McGregor will take on featherweight champ Jose Aldo, at UFC 194.
Recently Edgar spoke to UFC.com about his upcoming bout, and his hopes to secure the 145 title. While referring to the Aldo-McGregor match-up, which was postponed this past summer after the champion incurred a rib injury, Edgar stated:
“If someone gets hurt I’m the guy stepping in,” Edgar said. “And that’s from Dana White. You can print that in bold letters!”
Edgar has won four straight bouts now since he was decisioned by Aldo in 2013. Most recently the former lightweight champ earned a UD win over Urijah Faber in May.
