Israel Adesanya is in the news again. But this time the former UFC champ is making headlines on account of an issue outside the cage, as the star’s reportedly being charged with a drunk driving offense.
Recently, the New Zealand Herald reported that the 34-year-old Adesanya has pled guilty to a charge of “drink driving”. Court documents the publication reviewed reportedly indicate that Adesanya had 87 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood in a test that was administered on August 19th. The legal limit is 50 milligrams.
In a statement the renowned striker released, Adesanya said the following:
“I was pulled over and gave an evidentiary blood test – the reading was 87 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.”
I am disappointed with my decision to drive, It was wrong.
“I know that people might follow me and I want them to know I do not think this behaviour is acceptable.”
Adesanya (24-3) is coming off a shocking, decision loss to Sean Strickland at UFC 293, which took place on September 10th. Following the fight, UFC President Dana White said that an immediate rematch was a possibility, but nothing has been confirmed.
