Report: Kelvin Gastelum vs. Joe Pyfer Gets New Date
By FCF Staff
After their initial fight at UFC Mexico was cancelled just hours before the event, it’s being reported a new date for Kelvin Gastelum versus Joe Pyfer has been set.
The middleweights were scheduled to square off at the March 29th card. But, hours out from the event, Pyfer was forced to withdraw due to illness.
More recently, Pyfer’s head coach Javier Marquez informed MMA Today that the middleweights will now fight at UFC 316, June 7th. MMA Fighting has also confirmed the new booking with sources.
Gastelum (19-9) is coming off a decision win over Daniel Rodriguez in June and is 2-3 in his last 5 contests.
Pyfer (13-3) knocked out Marc-André Barriault in his last outing, which also took place in June. The middleweight is 4-1 in his last 5 bouts.
UFC 316 will take place in Newark, New Jersey, and will feature a rematch between bantamweight champ Merab Dvalishvili and former champ Sean O’Malley in the headliner.
