After reports surfaced this weekend that UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones had been arrested in Binghamton, New York, early Saturday morning for suspicion of DUI, the 24 year-old’s management team has released a statement.
According to multiple reports, the fighter’s manager, Malki Kawa of First Round Management, has released a statement saying:
“I can confirm that Jon Jones was arrested early this morning on suspicion of DUI. While the facts of this situation are still being gathered and situated, First Round Management fully supports Jon and we are asking for fans and media to respect the privacy of Jon and his family during this time.”
TMZ.com was the first to report Jones’ arrest, which reportedly occured after the fighter crashed his car into a utility pole.
The renowned competitor was apparently not injured in the crash.
Neither the UFC or Jones has commented publicly on the arrest.
Jones is scheduled to fight former Strikeforce and Pride champion Dan Henderson at UFC 151 on September 1st.
The UFC champion is coming off a unanimous decision win over Rashad Evans in April at UFC 145.
