Report: Matt Mitrione is Headed to Bellator
By FCF Staff
Matt Mitrione is the latest UFC veteran who is headed to Bellator, as the heavyweight is reporting that he’s signed with the Viacom owned promotion.
Mitrione entered free agency recently, following his controversial, stoppage loss to Travis Browne in January. The 37 year-old appeared on “The MMA Hour” on Monday, and announced that he has signed a four fight deal with Bellator. In addition, the heavyweight said that he is guaranteed a six figure purse for each bout.
Mitrione also said that being able to take money from sponsors once again, played a key role in his decision to leave the UFC. Fighters in the UFC aren’t allowed to promote sponsors during fight week, due to the promotion’s uniform deal with Reebok.
The 9-5 fighter will also be performing commentating duties for Bellator’s new kickboxing promotion.
In recent months, Bellator has signed high profile free agents like Benson Henderson, Wanderlei Silva and Sergei Kharitonov.
