Report: Nick Diaz Camp Interested in Fighting Josh Koscheck, Former #1 Contender Accepts Challenge
By FCF Staff
Accomplished welterweight Nick Diaz is preparing to return from suspension in early 2013, and his manager Cesar Gracie has reportedly signalled an interest in having him fight Josh Koscheck next.
In a report from Brazilian publication Tatame.com, Gracie relayed that in Koscheck, Diaz would face not only a top ranked opponent, but also a fighter with “great public recognition.” Gracie also cited Demian Maia as another possibility, however, due to Koscheck’s polarizing and high profile a bout with the latter would be preferable.
Koscheck took to Twitter to respond to the report and stated:
Cesar is calling 4 me the fight Diaz in Feb. Super Bowl weekend! What you guy think? I am DOWN! Don’t be scared Homie! #559 lol
Diaz (26-8) is currently under suspension with Nevada State Athletic Commission, after testing positive for marijuana following his decision loss to interim champion Carlos Condit in February. It should be noted that the former Strikeforce champion won’t see his suspension end until February 3rd, and that the Super Bowl card is expected to take place February 2nd.
Koscheck (17-6) hasn’t competed since May when he dropped a split decision loss to Johny Hendricks. The renowned wrestler and former TUF competitor was scheduled to fight Jake Ellenberger earlier this month, but was forced to withdraw due to injury.
