Report: Patricio “Pitbull” Says Media Doesn’t Give Bellator Fighters The Credit They Deserve
By FCF Staff
Many observers believe Patricio “Pitbull” Freire is one of the sport’s top featherweight fighters, but the decorated vet doesn’t feel he and his fellow Bellator competitors get enough credit from the MMA media.
The featherweight champion, who is scheduled to face Daniel Straus on January 16th, recently spoke to MMA Junkie.com about his standing in the MMA world. After arguing that he should be the consensus, #2 ranked 145’er, Freire also offered this statement:
“I think the media overvalues the UFC and doesn’t give much credit to other fighters,” Freire said. “Compare the records of the fighters from other organizations and you’ll see you are ranking guys wrong. Tell me how Pat Curran is behind Ricardo Lamas. What’s the logic in it? How is Conor McGregor ahead of Daniel Straus? If Straus was a UFC fighter, the UFC wouldn’t want McGregor anywhere near him. McGregor is good, and he may even have a bright future. But let’s be real here. If he didn’t talk so much, would he be so up in the rankings?”
“Pitbull” (22-2) is currently riding a five fight, win streak, and the Brazilian’s only losses have come via split decision to Pat Curran and Joe Warren.
