Report: Rad Martinez vs. Shabulat Shamhalaev Not Certain For Bellator 84
By FCF Staff
After Bellator 83 last night, and the cancellation of a featherweight finale bout between Rad Martinez and Shabulat Shamhalaev due to the latter being ill, it was reported that the fight would be pushed to next Friday’s card. While the promotion hopes to hold the fight at Bellator 84, it looks like the bout has not been confirmed just yet.
According to a report from MMA Junkie, Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney announced after last night’s event that the promotion still has to clear the new date with Martinez and that it “depends on a few factors.” One of which is likely Shamhalaev’s health. While it’s believed the fighter was suffering from food poisoning, Bellator might hold off on confirming the fight until it’s certain that the Russian fighter can compete.
Shamhalaev (11-1) scored first round, stoppage wins over Cody Bollinger and Mike Richman to advance to the tournament finals.
Martinez (14-2) secured his finals spot by earning unanimous decision victories over Nazareno Malegarie and most recently Wagnney Fabiano.
Bellator 84 will take place December 14th in Hammond, Indiana.
