Report: Rory MacDonald Suffers Cut in Training, Hoping to Fight BJ Penn at UFC 154
By FCF Staff
Rising welterweight Rory MacDonald will no longer fight BJ Penn on September 22nd at UFC 152, due to a deep cut he has suffered while training. In addition, MacDonald’s camp is reportedly pushing for the bout to be moved to UFC 154 on November 17th.
The UFC’s official Twitter account retweeted a post from MMA Fighting announcing MacDonald’s withdrawal and subsequent request. According to the story, UFC President Dana White has said that whether the bout is moved to November 17th is up to Penn.
MacDonald’s (13-1) cut reportedly required 38 stitches to close it.
Not long after MacDonald stopped Che Mills in April, he started campaigning for a bout with Penn (16-8-2), who had expressed doubts as to whether he’d fight again following his October loss to Nick Diaz.
Penn quickly agreed to the match-up and it was scheduled for UFC 152 in Toronto, Ontario.
UFC 154 will be hosted by Montreal, Quebec.
