(Updated) Report: Thiago Silva Arrested on Multiple Charges After Florida Incident
By FCF Staff
UFC light-heavyweight Thiago Silva is facing multiple charges after an incident in Oakland Park, Florida, Thursday night.
According to a report from NBC Miami.com, Silva allegedly threatened people at the Pablo Popovitch Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Center, before barricading himself inside a home. A SWAT team was called in to apprehend the fighter and he was subsequently arrested, and booked.
Since then, the Broward’s Sheriff’s Office has announced that Silva has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, resisting an officer-obstruct without violence, and two counts of commit-attempt specified felony that could cause death.
The 31 year-old Silva (16-3) hasn’t fought since October when he worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Matt Hamill at UFC FN 29.
Update: According to a follow up report from MMA Junkie.com, two counts of commit-attempt specified felony that could cause death, have been reduced to aggravated assault with a firearm versus Silva. A Broward County judge has apparently ruled that there is not enough evidence against Silva to support the charges.
