Report: Dana White to Talk to Georges St. Pierre About Next Bout, Believes Super Fight With Anderson Silva Possible

UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre

Having worked his way to a unanimous decision win over rival Nick Diaz in March, it remains to be seen when and who UFC welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre will fight next. Of course, due to Johny Hendricks win over Carlos Condit that same UFC 158 night, he and many others are expecting it to be him.

Speaking at a pre-UFC on FOX 7 event Thursday, UFC President Dana White relayed that he plans to talk to St. Pierre this week to discuss the renowned fighter’s future. According to a report from MMA Junkie, White, not surprisingly, brought up the possibility that GSP may want to fight UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva next.

While St. Pierre has been hesitant to commit to a bout with Silva in the short term in the past, citing the fact he would need to put on weight to do so, White confirmed he would give the superfight the green light.

“If Georges says to me, ‘I want to fight Anderson Silva,’ you think I’m going to go, ‘No you’re not – you’re fighting Johny Hendricks.”

St. Pierre’s trainer Firas Zahabi has stated in interviews recently that he believes the champion’s fighting days may be numbered, and that a bout with Silva would likely be his last.

Although GSP has repeatedly said that he would not be able to return to the welterweight division, if he added weight to fight Silva, White reiterated that the Canadian would still be the 170 pound champion.

Silva is set to fight rising middleweight Chris Weidman at UFC 162 on July 6th.
