Report: Yoel Romero And USADA Reach Deal, Suspension Reduced
By FCF Staff
It looks as though Yoel Romero could be returning to the Octagon a lot sooner than expected, as according to a report, the middleweight contender has reached a deal with USADA.
In January, USADA reported that Romero has been flagged for a potential anti-doping violation, following his decision win over “Jacare” Souza in December. The substance Romero allegedly tested positive for was never disclosed.
The decorated wrestler was facing a two year suspension, but according to a report from MMA Fighting.com, the fighter has reached an agreement with USDA and his suspension will be just nine months. The report cites sources close to the situation. Romero, who was expected to appeal the two year suspension, has denied knowingly taking any banned substance.
As a result of this latest development, the 38 year-old could be cleared to fight again this fall. Romero (11-1) has won seven straight fights now since he arrived in the UFC.
