‘return Of The Heavyweights’will Include Radnov, ‘meat Truck’
From the event’s promoter: ‘Return of the Heavyweights’ will include Radnov, ‘Meat Truck’ Promoters have announced the first four fighters taking part in the mega "Return of the Heavyweights" tournament. Mike Radnov, former training partner for Ken Shamrock, and Kerry "Meat Truck" Schall are among the first fighters to commit to the three-part event that concludes with a huge 16-man tourney in Honolulu, Hawaii. Radnov and Schall will be joined by William Hill and Jason Brilz at the Extreme Challenge 46 eight-man qualifying tourney Feb. 16 in Des Moines, Iowa. The remaining fighters for the Des Moines event will be announced soon. The second qualifying event is March 16 in Orem, Utah… followed by the Honolulu finals April 25-26 at the Blaisdell Arena. "The Return of the Heavyweights is designed to give all the unknowns a chance to show what they can do in a large event," said co-promoter Monte Cox. "We’ve been contacted by some pretty high-level guys, but we aren’t looking for fighters that have been in the UFC and Pride… we want to discover new talent… find the next stars." Cox, who promotes the Extreme Challenge, is co-producing the event with Super Brawl promoter T. Jay Thompson, who a year ago held a heavyweight event in Honolulu that included then relatively unknowns Josh Barnett, Bobby Hoffman, Ricco Rodriguez, Heath Herring, John Marsh and Travis Fulton. "We wanted to improve on the last heavyweight tourney… hard to do when six of the eight fighters ended up in UFC or Pride," Thompson said. "So, we doubled the field to 16 fighters and added the two qualifying events." The overall winner in Honolulu will receive $10,000 and a golden opportunity to be seen by all the major promotions in the sport. "Return of the Heavyweights" is being presented by Full Contact Fighter and will be shown on Full Contact Fighter TV. Extreme Challenge 46 will be held at the 7 Flags Event Center in Clive, Iowa. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster outlets. Also scheduled is a single welterweight bout between unbeaten Jason Black [pictured] and James "Mad Dog" Meals. From RITC Writer/Statistician John Petrilli: RITC 33 Draws Over 2,000 Fans By a razor thin margin, RITC 33 outdrew ESPN Championship Boxing (Jirov vs Castro) that was held the prior night at the same venue, Celebrity Theatre, in Phoenix, Arizona. The high energy show was one of the best RITC events ever, and nearly topped our all-time attendance record of 2,208 that we had last January for RITC 24. Adam Durant, a talented college wrestler, won his match with an impressive 34 second choke out victory over the #4 ranked RITC Lightweight. This win earned Fighter of the Night honors for Adam. Other candidates for this honor were Phil Lyons, Brad Pole, Rich Moss, Kenneth Alexander, Wayland Berry, Joseph Riggs and Edwin Dewees. Marcus "Conan" Silveira, BJJ specialist and veteran on UFC, WEF and EF, was in attendance for RITC 33. Props to Team Bad Boy USA from San Diego for posting a 2 – 0 record against top competition.
