RFA 18: Matt Manzanares to Defend Belt vs. Alexandre Pantoja
By FCF Staff
Resurrection Fighting Alliance has announced that its flyweight champ, Matt Manzanares, will now take on Alexandre Pantoja at the promotion’s September 12th card in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The event will also feature UFC vet Ulysses Gomez fighting bantamweight Abel Cullum.
“I’m pleased to announce that the RFA will be bringing an exciting new flyweight title fight to New Mexico,” RFA President Ed Soares was quoted saying in a press release. “Once again, Matt Manzanares has shown his eagerness to compete against the best in the world. After Joby Sanchez got the call to the UFC, Manzanares will now defend his title against Brazilian champion and Nova União star Alexandre Pantoja in the main event of RFA 18.”
Manzanares (7-2) is coming off a decision win over Junior Maranhao in April, after he lost by UD to Zach Makovsky last November.
Pantoja (14-2), on the other hand, heads to the RFA riding a seven fight win streak.
Cullum (18-6) will be returning to action for the first time since 2011. The well traveled vet’s last bout took place at DREAM 17 of that year, when he was submitted by Masakazu Imanari.
Gomez (9-4), on the other hand, is coming off a decision loss to Phil Harris at a UFC on FUEL TV card in February, 2013.
The upcoming event will be held by the Albuquerque Convention Center and the main card will be broadcast on AXS TV.
