Robert Whittaker’s Manager is Calling For Champ to Fight Chris Weidman at MSG
By FCF Staff
It remains to be seen who Robert Whittaker fights next, but it looks like the middleweight champ is targeting a New York City showdown with Chris Weidman.
Whittaker is coming off a split decision win over Yoel Romero last month, which marked the second time he’s defeated the powerful wrestler. The consensus is that either Weidman or Kelvin Gastelum will be booked for a title shot next.
Recently Whittaker’s manager Titus Day spoke with Australia’s Daily Telegraph, and after noting that a bout at Madison Square Garden is a “possibility”, he also said this:
“Rob’s the middleweight champ and his last two fights have been wars. So if his hand heals up as quickly as we’re hoping, we would definitely push for him to compete at the greatest fight arena in the world.
“And Chris Weidman, as the former champ, would be a perfect rival for that fight.”
Weidman hasn’t fought since last July due to issues with his hand. In that bout, however, he submitted Gastelum.
