Friday night’s boxing card in Times Square, New York City, was expected to set up a rematch between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney. But, following the event, that is now in doubt.
Garcia, who faced Rolly Romero, was fighting for the first time since April, 2024 . In Garcia’s last outing, he initially recorded a majority decision win over Haney. But, after testing positive for the banned substance, Ostarine, the result was overturned to a no-contest.
Garcia was a heavy favorite to defeat Romero. But the controversial star was knocked down in round two, and Garcia ultimately lost the fight via scores of 115-112, 115-112, and 118-109.
With the loss, Garcia’s record fell to 24-2, while Romero improved his to 17-2.
Haney, meanwhile, took on Jose Ramirez, and he went on to record another decision victory via scores of 118-110, 119-109, and 119-109. Haney’s record now stands at 32-0. Ramirez saw his drop to 29-3.
