“Shogun” Rua Discusses Goal For Next Fight, Following Big Win at UFC Adelaide
By FCF Staff
Although “Shogun” Rua has won four of his last five fights, he understands that a title shot isn’t in reach, so as a result, the legendary fighter is hoping to land a bout in his hometown.
Rua took on Tyson Pedro last weekend at UFC Adelaide, and scored a third round, TKO win over the rising light-heavyweight. Since then the Brazilian star spoke with Combate, and while discussing his goals for his next fight, Rua said this (quote via Bloody Elbow):
“I don’t think about the belt,” Shogun said. “I’m going to be fair, I believe there are people ahead of me and I don’t want to jump ahead of them unless the UFC wants me to. But I’ll never say it’s my turn, because it’s not. There are many guys ahead of me, Gustafsson and Jones, who’ll fight for the title. I think about winning each single fight. My only focus right now is to fight in Curitiba, in May, in my home town. That’s my goal.”
The former champ was coming off a knockout loss to Anthony Smith in July, prior to facing Pedro at UFC Adelaide. Rua’s record now stands at 26-11.
