“Shogun” Rua Makes Case For Why “I’m Close to The Belt”

"Shogun" Rua

By FCF Staff

“Shogun” Rua is currently ranked number five in the UFC’s light-heavyweight division, but the legendary fighter believes he could be tapped for a title shot fairly soon.

Rua was hoping to extend his winning streak to four in September, as he was booked  to face Ovince Saint Preux. But, a knee injury forced the 35 year-old Brazilian to drop out of the contest.

Recently Rua spoke with MMA Fighting, and he reported he hopes to resume training by the end of the month. In addition, the star also had this to say about his title shot run:

“I believe I’m close to the belt,” Rua said. “I believe I deserve to fight for the belt because of my history in MMA. I’m the athlete that’s fighting for the longest time in the division. I was the PRIDE and UFC champion, I think I deserve this chance.”

In Rua’s last outing, he stopped Gian Villante in the second round at UFC Fight Night 106 in March.
