“Shogun” Rua to Face Corey Anderson After Withdrawing From UFC on FOX 19
By FCF Staff
After having to withdraw from a bout with Rashad Evans next month due to injury, “Shogun” Rua has been booked to fight Corey Anderson at UFC 198.
Rua was scheduled to fight Evans at UFC on FOX 19 on April 16th, but after he pulled out, Glover Teixeira was tapped as a replacement. Recently the UFC announced that Rua will instead battle Anderson on May 14th, in Curitiba, Brazil.
The former light-heavyweight champ is coming off a unanimous decision win over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira last August, after being stopped in consecutive fights by Ovince Saint Preux and Dan Henderson. Rua (23-10) is 2-4 in his last six fights.
Anderson (8-1) took on Tom Lawlor at UFC 196 and won the bout via unanimous decision. The TUF 19 winner has won three straight bouts.
UFC 198 will be hosted by the Arena da Baixada and will feature heavyweight champ Fabricio Werdum taking on Stipe Miocic.
