Stephen Thompson Weighs-In on Darren Till Kicking His Knee at UFC FN 130
By FCF Staff
Stephen Thompson doesn’t know whether a kick Darren Till landed on his knee at UFC FN 131 seriously damaged his limb, but “Wonderboy” says the technique did have a significant impact on the bout.
The welterweights fought in Till’s home city of Liverpool on May 27th, and the latter emerged from the competitive fight with a decision win. Since then, Thompson appeared on “The MMA Hour”, and reported that a kick Till landed on his knee in round two, compromised his footwork (quote via MMA Fighting):
“It was almost like this dude was trying to put me out,” Thompson said. “He hit me in the knee and after that my movement was pretty much out the window. I was more focused on keeping my knee — it was just another thing to think about out there.”
“…It could have just been his misjudgment,” added Thompson, who also reportedly noted he doesn’t think Till is a dirty fighter. “I don’t think bad or negative about people, but when I was out there I felt like he was going for the knee.”
Thompson was coming off a decision win over Jorge Masvidal heading into the contest, and is now ranked at #3 in the welterweight division.
