EC 47 poster
Unbeaten heavyweights Tim Sylvia and Matt Frembling are among the fighters who will make up the 8-man tournament at Extreme Challenge 47: Return of the Heavyweights.
The second portion of the 3-show event will be held March 16 at the McKay Events Center in Orem, Utah.
"Our first show, in Des Moines, proved to be a physical battle," said co-promoter Monte Cox. "We had a broken hand, broken foot, 24 stitches for one guy, and seven more for another.
"In Utah, we have a more even battle on paper as most of the fighters are either unbeaten, or have a lot of experience. Whoever comes out on top in this tourney will make quite a name for himself."
In Des Moines, the tourney was won by underdog Ben Rothwell, a 20-year-old who defeated Mike Radnov in the finals. Both fighters advanced to the mega 16-man tournament scheduled April 25-26 at the Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Picking a favorite in Utah will be difficult. Sylvia, a 6-foot-8, 260-pounder who trains at the Miletich Martial Arts Center, boasts a 7-0 record. Frembling is 6-foot, 240 pounds and also has a perfect 7-0 mark. He trains with UFC vet John Lober.
Also in the field are Gabe Beaupurthy, a 6-2, 255-pounder who trained in wrestling with Olympic gold medalist Rulon Gardner; and Rocky Batastini, 6-2, 300 pounds, who has some of the most dynamic knockouts in Extreme Challenge and Super Brawl history.
The remaining four tournament heavyweights will be announced at a later date.
Also scheduled on the card is a women’s bout for the Extreme Challenge middleweight title. Salt Lake City’s Jennifer Howe (6-0) will put her title on the line against Angela Restad of Seattle.
Tickets for Extreme Challenge 47: Return of the Heavyweights will go on sale Monday at all Smith Tixx locations and at the McKay Events Center box office.

Main Event:
Homer "The Rock" Moore (210 lbs)
vs.
Joesph Riggs (235 lbs)

Moore vs. Riggs: This should be a fascinating matchup as Homer tries to get back on the winning track following his loss in UFC 34 in November and his draw in UA-The Genesis in January. It will be Homer’s quickness and experience against Joseph’s youth, solid base and raw power. Homer is 30 years old and Joseph is 19. Joseph is now ranked as the #3 fighter in the RITC Heavyweight Division and welcomes this challenge early in his career. He is a two-time state heavyweight wrestling champion, is very skilled in boxing and is also adding brazilian jiu-jitsu to his arsenal.

It will be Ground (Moore) vs Pound (Riggs). We all know what a great takedown artist Homer is. Joseph also has excellent takedown skills and complements this with very heavy handed power. He has won all his fights in Round 1 (2:32, :33 and 2:00) by submission due to strikes.

Stay tuned for a possible awesome Co-Main Event matchup that would absolutely "rock" Celebrity Theatre and satisfy all RITC fans. We are in the process of trying to sign this fight and an official announcement could come as early as next week.

There will be a total of 12 fights.

Fight Card subject to change.
