T.J. Dillashaw Responds to Cody Garbrandt’s Calls For an Immediate Rematch
By FCF Staff
After losing the bantamweight title to T.J. Dillashaw at UFC 217, Cody Garbrandt is calling for an immediate rematch, but his former teammate says “No Love” has some work to do first.
Garbrandt dropped Dillashaw in the opening round of their bout on Saturday, but the latter recovered, and in round two, put away the Team Alpha Male fighter with a flurry of punches. Afterwards, Garbrandt said he wants another bout with Dillashaw next, but the new champ had this to say at the post-fight presser (quote via MMA Fighting):
“I just finished him in the second round. He doesn’t deserve a rematch,” Dillashaw said. “He’s very new in this sport, he needs to work his way back up. I should’ve gotten a rematch after that (Dominick) Cruz fight (in Jan. 2016), a very close split decision that I thought I won, and I did not get it. It took me a year-and-a-half — well actually, almost two years — to get it. So yeah, I think he’s going to definitely (need to) build himself back up.”
Dillashaw, meanwhile, called for a fight with flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson, after reclaiming the bantamweight title.
