Tom Aspinall is “Bored” of Jon Jones Speculation, Will “Move on” if Fight Not Booked Soon
By FCF Staff
After months of speculation as to if and when Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall will fight, the latter is reporting he’s had enough.
Ever since Aspinall won the UFC’s interim heavyweight title in November, 2023, talk about him facing Jones has spiked. The heavyweight champ, however, repeatedly dismissed the idea that he should fight Aspinall.
But, following Jones’ win over Stipe Miocic last November, the controversial fighter said he would be open to the match-up. If the UFC was willing to pay him more.
With the middle of 2025 fast approaching, however, there’s still no word on when the fight might happen. Aspinall recently appeared on the High Performance Podcast. While discussing the fight’s hold-up, the English star reported he’s running out of patience (quotes via MMA Fighting.com).
“When you put him in there with, and I’m not trying to blow my own trumpet, but I’m literally the most dangerous guy in the UFC if you look at the stats,” Aspinall explained. “When you put him in with a guy of my size who has them credentials at this stage in his career, I think Jon’s a smart guy and realizes that, so he wants to be compensated financially for it. …
“I’m well bored of [the Jones conversation]. I’ve had enough. We either need to fight, or I need to move on to something else.”
The 32-year-old Aspinall (15-3) defended the interim title last July by quickly stopping Curtis Blaydes.
Jones (28-1), who turns 38 in July, has only fought two times since 2020. The former light-heavyweight champ won the heavyweight title in March, 2023, by quickly submitting Ciryl Gane.
