A couple of months into 2025, there’s still no official word on if and when Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall will fight. But, according to Aspinall’s latest update, the hold up is due to Jones and his camp.

Throughout much of 2024, Jones repeatedly said he wasn’t interested in fighting Aspinall, despite widespread calls from fans and pundits. Following Jones’ win over Stipe Miocic in November, the heavyweight champ said he would fight Aspinall, if the UFC compensated him significantly.

In a recent video Aspinall posted on his YouTube channel, the interim champ reported that Jones and his team are the reason why no fight has been booked (quote via MMA Junkie.com).

“The UFC tell me, they assure me they are doing everything they can to make this fight. So as far as I’m aware, this is now totally down to Jon Jones and his team to work that out. I’m literally just waiting for a date. But what’s holding it back is the UFC want to make the fight with me and Jon, and as far as I’m aware, it’s now about maybe financial, or otherwise. I’m not too sure, to be honest. I’m just waiting for the call right now.”

The 31-year-old Aspinall (15-3), who also reported he’s willing to fight “anybody”, is coming off a quick stoppage win over Curtis Blaydes in July.

Jones (28-1), who is 37, has fought just two times since 2024. Leading up to his bout with Miocic, the former light heavyweight champ said the fight could be the last of his career.
