Two Title Fights for BAMMA Dublin Announced
By Press Release
[London 29.08.17] BAMMA is pleased to announce the the first two title bouts for BAMMA Dublin. BAMMA Interim World Flyweight Champion Andy ‘Taz’ Young faces off against newly crowned Lonsdale Flyweight Champ and a huge Lonsdale Title tilt as defending Champion Tim Barnett faces Richie Smullen.
With the Flyweight division opening up after the departure of former Champion Rany Saadeh, there needs to be a new King crowned. Andy Young’s last bout was an impressive performance against what many considered to be the biggest “menace” to the flyweight division, in the shape England’s Dominique Wooding. Daniel Barez booked himself as the challenger off the back of a spirited and entertaining performance against a credible and threatening opponent in Ryan Curtis back in July. With the obvious clash of styles and pace that Young and Barez fight at, this is sure to be an entertaining bout that will see a new champion emerge. BAMMA 32 is stacking up to be one of the best fight cards brought to the magnificent shores of Ireland.“ – Jude Samuel (BAMMA Matchmaker)
BAMMA Dublin takes place at The 3Arena, Dublin on Friday 10th November and tickets are on sale now from http://bit.ly/BAMMA32
Andy ‘Taz’ Young Vs. Daniel Barez – BAMMA World Flyweight Title
With the former Flyweight Champion Rany Saadeh out of contract, Young and Barez are the top two challengers for the belt. Young has long been proclaiming himself the ‘real’ BAMMA Flyweight Champion since winning the interim title and he now gets the chance to prove it in November at the 3Arena. However, the Spanish sensation Daniel Barez stands in his way after he surged his way to the top with an electric performance over Ryan ‘Chaos’ Curtis at BAMMA 30. With the position of Flyweight king of Europe on the line, all eyes will be on this outstanding fight on November 10th.
Tim Barnett (c) Vs. Richie Smullen – Lonsdale Lightweight Title
Tim Barnett has been striking fear into the Lightweight division of late, finishing everyone who has stood in his path thus far. Barnett claimed the title from Rhys ‘Skeletor’ McKee in Belfast earlier in the year, and he now faces Richie Smullen who came through a brutal ‘fight of the year’ candidate when he fought to a stunning draw with the former Champion McKee in Dublin at BAMMA 30. With these two huge prospects about to lock horns, and the shadows of McKee waiting in the wings, this is going to be a must see battle in the 3Arena, with the winner putting themselves in an exceptional position for a title shot.
Additional Info
Andy ‘Taz’ Young (11-8) The Next Generation Northern Ireland fighter will be fighting for the title he already believes to be his. Young felt that Saadeh was afraid to face him one more time after their razor thin decision in the first fight. Young since claimed the interim title from Dominique ‘The Black Panther’ Wooding in Belfast and he now gets the opportunity to claim the title of BAMMA World Champion if he defeats Barez.
Daniel Barez (8-4) the aggressive striker from Spain is fresh of his Lonsdale title win against Ryan ‘Chaos’ Curtis at BAMMA 30. With all his victories coming via stoppage, the rapid fire attacks will be relentless and Barez is prepared to take this opportunity with both hands and give Andy Young the toughest battle of his career, and return home to Spain with his second piece of BAMMA gold.
Tim Barnett (5-0) has been on a tear, proving all doubters wrong as he is starting to carve a path of destruction through the BAMMA Lightweight Division. First the Liverpudlian shocked the Belfast crowd in attendance at BAMMA 28: Parke Vs Redmond, when he stepped in on late notice and dethroned reigning champ Rhys ‘Skeletor’ McKee in front of his crowd. Then he followed this up by KOing the more experienced challenger in Mario ‘Rudeboy’ Saeed at BAMMA 29. Fighting out of the MMA Academy Liverpool under the watchful eye of UFC veterans Mike Wootten and Jason Tan, Barnett goes from strength to strength in each and every fight he competes in.
Richie Smullen (3-0-1) Smullen made his debut at BAMMA 26: Saadeh vs Young, handing ‘The Carlow Kid’ Andrew Murphy his first pro loss. Another standout prospect from SBG, he put on a titanic battle with former Lonsdale Champion Rhys ‘Skeletor’ McKee at BAMMA 30 to come away with a draw after an epic ‘fight of the year’ contender. This was the first time that Smullen had been taken the distance in any of his fights thus far, with all his previous bouts coming via way of stoppages. Smullen now faces the even tougher task of stopping a seemingly unstoppable Barnett in his hometown of Dublin. A task that Smullen is relishing.
