UFC 170: Cody Gibson Replacing Injured Lucas Martins
By FCF Staff
Cody Gibson will make his Octagon debut on very short notice, as the bantamweight has been booked to replace the injured Lucas Martins at UFC 170, which goes down February 22nd. Gibson will take on Aljamain Sterling, who will also be making his promotional debut.
The UFC’s announcement did not disclose the nature of Martins’ injury. Initially, Martins was signed to fight Bryan Caraway at UFC 170, but the latter was also forced to withdraw due to injury.
Gibson (11-3) arrives in the UFC having won six straight bouts, and most recently he scored a decision win over Evan Esguerra, while competing for Tachi Palace Fights in November.
Sterling (8-0) is coming off a submission win over Joel Roberts under the Cage Fury Fighting Championship banner in November, where he was the bantamweight champ.
UFC 170 will be hosted by the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and will feature Ronda Rousey taking on Sarah McMann in the main event.
