UFC 178: Cat Zingano Returning to Fight Amanda Nunes

Cat Zingano finally has her next fight booked, but the number one contender will not face UFC bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey.

The promotion has announced that the 8-0 fight will take on Amanda Nunes at UFC 178 on September 27th. That card, which will go down in Las Vegas, Nevada, does not have a venue confirmed yet.

Zingano stopped Miesha Tate in April, 2013 to lock up a coaching stint on TUF 18 and a chance to fight Rousey. Zingano injured her knee soon after, however, and she hasn’t fought since.

The 32 year-old was expected to face Rousey in her return, but the latter broke her hand during her win over Alexis Davis at UFC 175.

Nunes (9-3) has scored wins over Germaine de Randamie and Sheila Gaf since joining the UFC, and is currently ranked #8.

UFC 178 will also feature a rematch between light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson.
