UFC 178’s Eddie Alvarez Promising “Violent Fight” in Octagon Debut
By FCF Staff
On September 27th, Eddie Alvarez will look to take his first step into title contention with the UFC, when he takes on top ranked contender Donald Cerrone.
Since Alvarez is a former Bellator champ, and has been regarded as a top 155’er for years, the UFC tapped him to fight the promotion’s #5th ranked lightweight.
While talking to “UFC Tonight“, here is what Alvarez had to say, when asked what fans can expect in his scrap with Cerrone (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):
“It’s a high-paced, violent fight. I try to bring that every time. I throw caution to the wind, like a young guy. You can feel my excitement to the sport. That’s what fans can expect.”
The bout will mark the first time Alvarez has fought since last November, when he reclaimed Bellator’s title by decisioning Michael Chandler.
“No added nerves, just some added excitement,” said Alvarez, while discussing whether nerves could place a factor. “I’ve fought everywhere and I’ve fought some of the best guys in the world. I’ve learned what’s important. The lights don’t bug me anymore. It’s just about me and Donald Cerrone that night.”
Alvarez (25-3) heads into his Octagon debut riding a three fight win streak, while Cerrone has won four in a row.
UFC 178 will be hosted by the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
