UFC 180: Cain Velasquez Versus Fabricio Werdum set for November 15th

UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez

By FCF Staff

Amidst speculation as to when Cain Velasquez will fight again, after undergoing shoulder surgery, the UFC has announced that the heavyweight champ will battle Fabricio Werdum, November 15th. The title fight will headline the promotion’s first event in Mexico, and will be hosted by the Mexico City Arena.

In addition, the UFC has confirmed that Velasquez and Werdum will coach opposite one another on the first season of “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America”. The series will begin airing on August 18th and will feature bantamweight and featherweight fighters.

“I’m very excited about this – amazing talent is going to come out of Mexico and Latin America,” UFC President Dana White was quoted saying in a press release from the promotion. “This is a region we are working hard to develop. There is a lot of talent and a lot of great potential in multiple weightclasses. We know that the fans in Mexico and throughout Latin America will totally get behind this thing and it’ll blow up and it’ll be huge just like Brazil.”

“For me, it’s an honor to be named the first coach of The Ultimate Fighter Latin America,” said Velasquez. “I’m excited to share my experience and help train a young team of up and coming Latin American men. And then, to be able to do something I’ve always dreamed of doing, defending my title in Mexico in November, will be a dream come true.”

Velasquez hasn’t fought since October, when he stopped Junior dos Santos, while Werdum is coming off a decision win over Travis Browne earlier this month.

The upcoming season of TUF will air on Televisa Channel.5 in Mexico as well as the UFC Network.com.
