UFC 194: Kenny Florian And Daniel Cormier Break Down Aldo – McGregor, Keys to Victory
By FCF Staff
Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor will finally battle on Saturday night at UFC 194, in what will be the biggest fight in featherweight history. The bout matches the only featherweight champ the UFC has had to date, against another of the sport’s superstars in the interim champ McGregor.
In the latest edition of “UFC Tonight”, commentators Daniel Cormier and Kenny Florian weighed in on the highly anticipate match-up. Here is what they had to say while discussing the keys to victory for each man (quotes via press release).
Kenny Florian on Aldo’s key’s to winning: “People know him for his leg kicking game. When I fought him, that was the hardest I was kicked in my life. He just landed five or six kicks, and they ruined my leg. I couldn’t put pressure on my leg or pivot on it. As far as his fundamentals they’re almost perfect, he doesn’t make mistakes. He has a killer instinct. His keys to victory are he’s got to pressure McGregor. If he’s backing up, he can’t use the leg kicks. He also has to land the takedown. He has world class Brazilian jiu-jitsu.”
Cormier on McGregor’s key’s to victory: “Conor is favorite going into the fight and that tells you how people view this guy. All people have seen him do is dominate. They say he talks but at the end of the day, he backs it up and knows how to win. He’s very accurate with his punches and throws weird kicks. He has great boxing, and dynamic kicks. His keys are he needs to use his reach. He needs to throw combos and he needs to stop the takedown.”
Aldo will be fighting for the first time since last October, when he decisioned Chad Mendes. McGregor, meanwhile stopped the latter this past July in his last bout.
UFC 194 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
