UFC 194’s John Makdessi Reflects on Loss to Donald Cerrone: “I Took His Best Shots”
By FCF Staff
John Makdessi was stopped by Donald Cerrone in his last fight, and had his jaw broken during it, but the feared striker took something positive out of the defeat.
Makdessi faced the #1 contender at UFC 187 in May, and after absorbing a head kick in round two, the Tristar fighter waved off the bout. Afterwards it was revealed “The Bull” had broken his jaw.
Well, Makdessi will make his return to the Octagon this Saturday at UFC 194 against Yancy Medeiros. Recently the lightweight spoke with UFC.com in advance of the fight, and while reflecting on his loss to Cerrone, Makdessi stated:
“I took his best shots and, if you look at his last fights, most guys dropped from that,” Makdessi said. “I fractured my jaw and I was still standing.”
The defeat follow Makdessi’s memorable, stoppage win over Shane Campbell in April. In the interview, Makdessi also credited Medeiros for having “good grappling” and “good boxing”. Medeiros was stopped by Dustin Poirier in his last fight.
UFC 194 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday.
