UFC 203: Stipe Miocic Says he “Wasn’t Even Close to Tapping Out”
By FCF Staff
Following his KO loss to Stipe Miocic last night at UFC 203, Alistair Overeem claimed his opponent tapped to a guillotine choke moments before. But the heavyweight champ insists that didn’t happen.
Miocic finished Overeem with ground-and-pound strikes in the opening round. Prior to that, however, Overeem had secured a guillotine choke that Miocic eventually worked out of. Immediately after the fight, Overeem claimed Miocic had tapped to the technique, although the replay didn’t appear to show that occurring.
While speaking to FOX Sports 1 after the card, Miocic had this to say about Overeem’s comments (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):
“I wasn’t even close to tapping out. He let go. I don’t understand how he even thinks that.”
Miococ proceeded to stop short of naming who he would like to fight next, but the Cleveland fighter noted:
“I’ll keep winning. I keep becoming ‘And Still.’ I told myself I’ll win the title and keep it a long time.”
The 34 year-old heavyweight has won four straight fights now, and with last night’s win, Miocic’s record stands at 16-2.
