UFC 203: Stipe Miocic Takes Out Alistair Overeem, Mickey Gall Runs Through CM Punk
By FCF Staff
Stipe Miocic sent the fans home happy tonight at UFC 203, as the Cleveland fighter took out Alistair Overeem to defend the heavyweight title.
Overeem dropped Miocic early on with a hard jab, but the champion recovered, and resumed pursuing the challenger. A few minutes later, Miocic took Overeem to the mat, and put the veteran away with punches from above.
After the bout, Overeem claimed he felt Miocic tap to a guillotine choke he applied after he dropped him, but the replay did not appear to indicate that had happened.
In the co-headliner, Fabricio Werdum outstruck Travis Browne for the UD win. Early on into the bout, Browne called for time, after apparently injuring his hand. Although the referee didn’t bring a stop to the action, Browne was allowed to continue after talking to the ringside physician.
UFC 203 also featured the MMA debut of CM Punk, who was quickly taken downy by Mickey Gall, and submitted by the promising welterweight. After the bout, Punk said he would be back.
