UFC 214: Jon Jones Discusses Rift With Dana White, Says Latter “Completely Abandoned” Him
By FCF Staff
Recently Dana White reported that he hasn’t spoke with Jon Jones in over a year, and now the latter has provided more details as to why.
Although Jones is set to fight Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 on Saturday, he hasn’t spoken with White, since his well documented withdraw from UFC 200 last July. While discussing the fact he hasn’t talked to the former light-heavyweight champ, White acknowledged he “wasn’t happy” with Jones, after the star was pulled from the event due to a USADA flag.
More recently, Jones talked to the L.A. Times, and in the interview he relayed that White has attempted to contact him several times, but that he hasn’t responded. In addition, Jones had this to say about his relationship with White:
“I just feel like when you’re making the company money and you’re a pay-per-view draw and you’re ultimately putting money in his pocket, then you mean a lot to him,” Jones said of White.
“The moment you aren’t those things, you mean nothing to him, and he’s done a decent job of showing that. I felt completely abandoned by him … in a situation when I needed him the most.”
Jones also said that he believes White showed his “true colors”, and that as a result, he has no intention to “pretend” they’re friends.
