UFC 232: Alexander Gustafsson Says he Gave Jon Jones Too Much Respect in 2013 Classic
By FCF Staff
Alexander Gustafsson has been given another chance to hand Jon Jones his first, legitimate defeat, and it sounds “The Mauler” intends to come out more aggressively in their rematch.
Gustasfsson will face the former light-heavyweight champ for the vacated title, at UFC 232, December 29th. The two fought before in 2013, and Jones won the thrilling and competitive bout via unanimous decision.
Recently the UFC held a press conference to promote the upcoming card, and during it, Gustafsson had this to say about their first bout, and the upcoming rematch (quotes via MMA Junkie):
“That’s where you’re wrong – I didn’t lose, Jon,” Gustafsson said. “We all know I didn’t lose.
“I’m very fortunate to have a third time to fight for the belt. I’m fighting Jon, it’s the biggest fight of my life. I respected him too much the first time we fought. I’m not going to give him the respect I gave him the first time. I will show the world you can beat the man that’s never been beaten.”
In Gustafsson’s last bout, which took place in May, 2017, he finished Glover Teixeira in the fifth round. UFC 232 will be hosted by the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
